, welcome to my corner of the Internet!

Below you will find a brief biography, along with links to various writings, profiles, and other content that I've created. Please take a look around, but understand that this is my IndieWeb home, thus things may be in flux.

Sometimes described as an Internet native, my path as a technologist began early, first logging-on in 1992, and leading to Linux on the desktop by 1996. Over many years and many experiences, I have continued this pursuit into a tenure of leading GSLUG, followed by yet another with SeaGL.

Currently I am studying FLOSS communities and policies with the CDSC and TPL at the UW. Additionally, I am heavily involved with Snowdrift.coop, a volunteer run startup trying to sustainably fund public goods.

With my “free time” I attend, organize, and speak worldwide at: conferences, conventions, events, festivals, and faires; on various topics including: communication, crowdmatching, internet technologies, linux, music, sci-fi/fantasy, security, and windsports.

Among my many hobbies, some favorites include: bicycling, boffering, cooking, costuming, dancing (east coast swing, international folk, blues), driving, gaming, hot tubs/springs, kilts, massage, mixology, programming, public speaking, reading, robotics, skiing, travel, urban hiking (walking), and windsports (windsurfing, sailing, kiteboarding).

Here are some highlights of my public presentations and writing. Visit altsalt.net for a broader selection.

While there are numerous ways to contact me, I prefer synchronous communication, and thus like to hold conversations over Matrix or in-person. In general, I try to be very approachable and will always be found wearing a kilt.
